Search Engine War & Your Site

by Trophico on August 26, 2009

In this weeks TIME you can read about how Google and MSN are having a go at each other with their new engines, MicroSoft with Bing (http://www.bing.com) engine that has surprised (almost) everyone with its success and its fresh approach to search, and Google with what already seems to be like a very strong answer with its “Caffeine” engine (http://www2.sandbox.google.com), which is actually a better, faster and more accurate version of good old Google.

MSN's new engine - Bing

MSN's new engine - Bing

Without taking sides (however must mention that Caffeine is lighting fast) or describing what I think each sides does better (just check out the personal touch to Bing home page each day…) lets take a moment to think how this effects us as webmasters, site owners, or SEO experts.

The obvious and natrual thing to understand is that the market is even stronger than it used to be, if the big MSN & G decide to put in a lot of effort into better search platforms it simply means that the people want it, and that, in a not so obvious way, means a lot. If people want answers faster, they probably want better answers faster (like Caffeine does) or more personalized look to their answers (like Bing does),in short – the public wants more.

Google's Caffeine - if only they didnt name it sandbox...

Now that we (finally) realized that the people want better results, we should start thinking about how we can please those two search giants, how do we rank on top, in both G and MSN? Sill no clear answer on this one.

But one thing is almost sure, in the (maybe near) future, pleasing the visitor will automatically earn you big points with the engines, the ultimate reverse engineering trick the search engines will pull is to have the best visitor experience sites rank on top, because they deliver satisfaction.
